Oct. 25, 2015 Albuquerque, N.M. - The University of Denver men's tennis team won the 2015 ITA Regional Championship tournament after capturing two first place finishes today at the University of New Mexico campus.
Junior Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) defeated Dan Little of UU 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 in the finals match for main draw singles, while Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.)/Alex Gasson (Alton, United Kingdom) beat Hayden Sabatka/Bart Van Leijsen of UNM 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 in the finals match for main draw doubles.
"It's a long tournament where you have to play multiple matches in a day, so it's mentally and physically draining," head coach Ricardo Rubio said. In addition to the two championship titles captured by Rocha and Craig/Gasson, sophomore Jesse Ruder-Hook (Denver, Colo.) fell just short in the consolation final against Jorge Escutia of UNM 7-6, 7-5, 7-6.
