Dec. 10, 2015 DENVER - The University of Denver women's gymnastics team is set to host its annual Crimson & Gold Gymboree and Intrasquad on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium. This is the first chance for fans to see this year's team, and admission is free.
The event features the student-athletes split into two teams and competing against one another in a scrimmage-type event. There will be contests and trivia during the meet, followed by the chance for fans to meet the team and get autographs.
Denver finished the 2015 season ranked No. 15 in the nation, the team's highest finish in five years. Two-time All-American Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) tied for second on floor and finished 11th overall in the all-around at the 2015 NCAA National Championships. McGee will compete in her fifth and final season with DU in 2016.
Also returning to Denver in 2016 are seniors Emily Barrett (Norman, Okla.), Maggie Laughlin (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Katie Menhinick (Paramus, N.J.) and Morgan Tolman (Northridge, Calif.). The Pioneers welcome four freshman to their roster: Grace Broadhurst (Broomfield, Colo.), Diana Chesnok (Charlotte, N.C.), Claire Kern (Charlotte, N.C.) and Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.).
The 2016 season will be Denver's first as an affiliate member of the Big 12 Conference. During the offseason, DU promoted Linas Gaveika to Associate Head Coach and welcomed Robert Ladanyi as Assistant Coach. Head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart returns for her 18th season with the Pioneers.
Fans attending Saturday's intrasquad are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to support the DU/CBS4 Care 4 Colorado toy drive. Toy drop-offs will be located at the marketing kiosk inside the Ritchie Center.
Season and single-meet tickets are now on sale for DU's five home meets, featuring opponents such as Minnesota, Washington and West Virginia. Tickets are $9 for each meet, and season tickets are available for $35. For ticket information, visit denverpioneers.com/tickets or call the Ritchie Center Box Office at 303-871-2336.
