Feb. 16, 2015 DENVER - The University of Denver's women's gymnastics team is ranked No. 17 in this week's GymInfo poll. It is the third straight week that the team has moved up in the rankings, scoring an average 195.479 through seven meets following a 195.425 win at West Virginia on Friday.
Denver is ranked in the top 25 on three events: No. 9 on floor (49.136 average), No. 15 on vault (49.093) and No. 25 on beam (48.561). This is the first week in 2015 that DU has been ranked on beam.
Senior Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) is again ranked amongst the best on floor, coming in tied for No. 5 on the event with a 9.914 average.
DU is second in the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference, behind first-place Boise State. Denver is the conference's top floor team and is second on vault. McGee is the highest-ranked gymnast in the all-around and on floor in the MRGC, while sophomore Rachel Fielitz (Walden, N.Y.) is ranked third on vault.
Beginning next week, the GymInfo poll will rank teams and individuals based on their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). The RQS is calculated based on the six highest regular season scores, three of which must be recorded at away meets. The highest score is dropped, and the remaining top five scores are averaged.
The Pioneers return to Denver for their only home meet in February on Saturday the 21st against BYU and Iowa at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
