DENVER - Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored 18 points and Cam Griffin (San Antonio, Texas) grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds as the University of Denver men's basketball team fell to the Fort Wayne Mastodons Thursday evening at Magness Arena, 63-47.

The Mastodons (15-11, 8-5 Summit League) reeled off its seventh straight victory while the Pioneers (10-16, 4-9 Summit League) dropped its third straight.

With the Pioneers trailing 28-23 at halftime, DU came out and jumped all over IPFW going on an 11-2 run to open up a 34-30 lead with 16:40 remaining in the game. From that point on it was all Fort Wayne as the Mastodons went on a 16-0 run to open up a double-digit lead and a 33-13 run to close out the game.

Denver came in as the ninth best shooting team in the country at 49.0 percent and finished the game shooting 32.0 percent (16-of-50).

"Obviously it's going to be extremely hard to get the outcome you want when you shoot as poorly as we did tonight," head coach Joe Scott said. "I thought our shooters were getting the shots and they just didn't put them in."

Nate Engesser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the game with five points and four rebounds.

Cam Delaney (Harker Heights, Texas) scored six points while Christian Mackey (Kirtland, N.M) scored two points and had four rebounds

IPFW shot a blistering 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the field. The Pioneers only hit 27.3 percent from behind the 3-point line (9-of-33). The Mastodons shot 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from 3-point range.

The Pioneers came out ice-cold in the first half making just five of their first 20 shots. With Denver leading 16-14, IPFW went on a 10-0 run to open up an eight point lead. The Pioneers kept it close cutting the lead to just three, but a basket by Steve Forbes right before the half gave IPFW a 28-23 heading into the locker room.

Denver was led by Griffin who scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds. Marcus Byrd (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored six points off the bench in the first half.

Denver shot 32.0 percent (8-of-25) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. The Pioneers hit for just 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from behind the arc in the first half. IPFW shot 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the floor. The Mastodons shot 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from behind the 3-point line in the first half.

IPFW was led in the game by Joe Edwards who scored 17 points, while Forbes added 14 points and six rebounds. Isaiah McCray chipped in six points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Mastodons.

Notes: Denver honored Griffin and Olson on senior night prior to tip-off as the seniors played their final game at Magness Arena. Jalen Love (Wichita, Kan.) missed the game due to injury. Denver finished the game with a season-high 14 offensive rebounds.

Denver will head on the road to finish their 2014-15 regular season. First up is a trip to Macomb, Ill. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. MT to take on Western Illinois. The game can be heard on Mile High Sports Radio 94.1 FM with Raj Sharan on the call.
