DENVER -- The No. 55 University of Denver women's tennis team (7-7, 1-0 Summit League) fell to No. 34 Fresno State (13-3), 5-2 Friday afternoon.

The Pioneers fell behind early when Fresno State swept all three doubles positions to take a, 1-0 lead.

"We have been close all year to breaking through and beating a top 40 team," said Head Coach Christian Thompson. "We fell short again today, but were very close to winning 4 first sets. I have to give credit to Fresno as they served very well and played with great depth from the baseline in many matches."

In singles the Pioneers couldn't build enough momentum to mount a comeback. Freshman Julia O'Loughlin extended her singles win streak to 11 straight matches with a, 6-1, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) win over Rana Sherif Ahmed. Junior Evy Van Genechten would earn the other point for Denver with a, 6-2, 6-4 win on court five.

"We are looking forward to heading to Illinois to face Western Illinois, our second conference match, on Sunday," said Thompson.

The Pioneers will face off against Summit League foe Western Illinois on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. MT.
