OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - [4/4] University of Denver men's lacrosse midfielder Erik Adamson (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) has been selected as one of 20 candidates for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate lacrosse. The award recognizes student athletes who excel both on and off the field.
"To me, Erik Adamson is one of the finest young men I've ever been around," head coach Bill Tierney said. "He continues to surprise people with the things he does, obviously on the field, but also in the classroom, around our team and around the community. He's such a high-character guy in our locker room--just the type of athlete that we look to recruit into our program. He was going to go to Arizona State to play club lacrosse, but now he's a DI All-American and will be playing professional lacrosse this summer. These kinds of awards are really special because they represent more than what an athlete can do on the field, and a guy like Erik Adamson would represent the award very well."
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2015 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship in May.
DU returns home this week to take on [3/3] Notre Dame at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT. Saturday's game can be seen on Pioneer Vision and heard on 105.5 ESPN Radio.
