April 14, 2016 DENVER - The University of Denver men's tennis team will host the IUPUI Jaguars this weekend as both teams will look to remain undefeated in Summit League play.
The 51st-ranked Pioneers are set to take on the Jaguars this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. MT at Lifetime Fitness in Centennial, Colo. Saturday's match is deemed 'Senior Day' in honor of current seniors Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) and David Fox (Surrey, United Kingdom).
"Saturday will be a special day for our team, it will be the last time our two seniors will get to play at home," head coach Ricardo Rubio said. "IUPUI and Denver are both undefeated in the conference and I am expecting a tough match. We will most likely play the match indoors at Lifetime Fitness and we hope to have a great crowd supporting our team. We have two more regular season matches before we play our conference tournament and I want our team to continue to improve in all areas over the next two weeks."
The Pioneers defeated Oral Roberts 6-1 on their home courts last Friday to improve to 4-0 in conference matches.
Junior Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) was named the Summit League Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his performance April 5-11. Rocha collected his eighth career Player of the Week award and third of the 2016 season. He blanked Oral Roberts' Jan Pehnec (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2 singles before teaming with Zach Fryer (Centennial, Colo.) for a 6-2 victory over ORU's Sosnowski/Bates at No. 3 doubles. He also improved his career Summit League record to 14-0 to move atop the league's winning percentage list and into a tie for ninth for most league wins.
