Denver Voted Third in USILA/Nike Preseason Coaches' Poll

PERRY, N.Y. - The University of Denver men's lacrosse program, Presented by your Hometown Toyota Stores, has been voted third (320 points) in the 2017 USILA/Nike Division I Men's Lacrosse Coaches' Poll, the USILA announced on Monday.

2016 National Champion North Carolina was picked first, earning eight first place votes and 341 points, two first place votes and 21 more points than the Pioneers. The last two national champions will meet at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in the fifth game of Denver's season-opening six game homestand on March 4 (11:30 a.m. MT).

Maryland was voted second in the 2017 preseason poll, earning four first place votes and 11 more points than Denver. Notre Dame (298) and Syracuse (256) rounded out the top five. Notre Dame will also pay a visit to the Lacrosse Capital of the West in March to cap off Denver's homestand on March 12 (1 p.m.).

Season tickets for the 2017 University of Denver men's lacrosse campaign are on sale now and can purchase for $110 clicking here. Denver will play nine home games at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium this spring.

With a donation of $350 and the purchase of a full-season ticket package, fans can experience the Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium Gold Club, which offers a pre- and in-game buffet, reserved covered parking, private cash bar, game notes and the ability to purchase additional Gold Club individual tickets.

Following its 2015 National Championship, the Pioneers went 13-3 in 2016, winning their third-consecutive BIG EAST Regular Season Championship, stretching the program's record to 16-straight regular season conference wins in three years. DU's 2016 Tewaaraton Award Finalist Connor Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) is one of five USILA All-Americans returning for the Crimson and Gold.

Head coach Bill Tierney will enter his eighth season in charge of the Pioneers in 2017 and his 33rd collegiate season overall. The two-time USILA Division I National Coach of the Year will enter the campaign with a 368-121 record, including 96-28 since his move to the "Lacrosse Capital of the West."
