Three Freshmen to Compete in 2018 National Collegiate Tennis Classic

DENVER -

The University of Denver Men’s Tennis team has three (3) players competing in the 2018 National Collegiate Tennis Classic to be played from Jan. 12-15 in Palm Desert, Calif.

Freshmen Mattia Ros, Matt Summers and Jorge Nunez will compete in the preseason tune-up with Boise State University, Pepperdine University and the University of San Francisco.

Ros, named to the Summit League Players to Watch List, and Summers will open competition with a doubles match beginning at 10:30 a.m. MT on Jan. 12. Ros and Nunez will continue competition later in the day with singles matches beginning at 11:30 a.m MT. Summers will open singles play upon the conclusion of a first-round matchup being played at 11:30 a.m MT.

Denver is set to open the 2017-2018 fall season on Jan. 19 at Lamar University. The Pioneers’ first home match is set for Feb. 10 against Air Force.

Last season, Denver finished with a 13-13 (4-0 Summit League) record, won its fourth-consecutive Summit League title and advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament for the fourth-consecutive year. Five (5) players return from last season’s roster, while the team welcomes five (5) freshmen to the squad.

ALUMNI GIVING CHALLENGE

The University of Denver is holding an alumni giving challenge for the 2017-2018 season in an effort to increase student-athlete alumni participation in the Denver Athletics Annual Fund. The sport with the highest percentage of alumni participation will receive an additional $10,000 of support through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
