
Ian Mitchell Named to NCHC All-Rookie Team

DENVER -
University of Denver Pioneers freshman defenseman Ian Mitchell was named to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) 2017-2018 All-Rookie Team, the NCHC announced on Tuesday.
Mitchell was one of three (3) student-athletes unanimously selected for the team, receiving the maximum seven (7) first-place votes and 21 points from head coaches at each NCHC institution. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Mitchell led Denver defensemen with 16 points (2-14-16) and led the team with 10 power-play assists and 36 blocked shots in 24 conference games. Additionally, the Chicago Blackhawks draft pick logged 40 shots and a +8 rating in NCHC play. Mitchell finished the Pioneers' regular season with 22 points (2-20-22), 16 power-play assists, a .65 points per game average and 43 blocked shots to lead all Denver blueliners. The Calahoo, Alberta native's 16 power-play assists ranked second among all NCAA defenseman and his 22 points tied him for sixth in scoring among NCAA freshmen defensemen.
Each coach voted for six (6) forwards, four (4) defensemen and two (2) goaltenders, awarding first-place votes for six (6) players (three (3) forwards, two (2) defensemen and one (1) goaltender) and second-place votes for the other six (6) selections. Three (3) points were awarded for a first-place vote while one (1) point was awarded for a second-place vote. Find the NCHC All-Rookie Team and voting results below:

The NCHC will announce its All-Conference Teams on Wednesday and its individual award finalists on Thursday. Individual award winners will be announced at the NCHC Awards Celebration in Saint Paul, Minn. on Thursday, March 15.
