Hockey Canada has invited
Ian Mitchell to participate in the Sport Chek World Junior Showcase from July 28, 2018 – Aug. 4, 2018 in Kamloops, British Columbia. Mitchell will be among 24 forwards, 12 defensemen and four (4) goalies vying for a chance to represent the red-and-white at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship from Dec. 26, 2018 – Jan. 5, 2019 in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
Mitchell has previously represented Canada at the 2015 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, the 2016 World Junior "A" Challenge and the 2017 IIHF U-18 World Championship. The Chicago Blackhawks prospect and soon-to-be sophomore defenseman has 13 points (5-8-13) in 19 international games. Mitchell tallied 30 points (2-28-30) in 41 games during his freshman season at the University of Denver and was a finalist for National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Year.
Canada will face the United States, Finland and Sweden during the eight-day showcase.
