Pios Record Four More NCAA Standards in Sunday’s Prelim Session

Denver turned in 15 personal best collegiate swims in the final prelims session of the Big Al Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs added four more NCAA Standards to an already impressive weekend on Sunday morning at the 2019 Big Al Open at Denunzio Pool.
 
The Pioneers opened up their Sunday morning putting two swimmers in tonight's A-Final in the women's 200 back in freshman Sofia Nosack (Beaverton, Ore.) and sophomore Natalie Arky (Highlands Ranch, Colo.). On the men's side, senior Neil Wachtler (Waco, Texas) booked his ticket to tonight's A-Final with a 1:46.70.
 
In the women's 100 free, junior Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario) and senior Sarah Lingen (Maple Grove, Minn.) tied for the final scoring qualifying spot with a time of 51.24.
 
Denver's men's freestylers continued their impressive weekend on Sunday morning, qualifying two for the A-Final and three for the B-Final in the 100 Free. Junior Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, N.Y.) took the top spot in the prelims with an NCAA B Standard time of 43.06. Redshirt-junior Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.) also earned an NCAA B Standard with his swim of 43.39. Senior Hugo Sykes (Weston, Conn.), freshman Spencer Adrian (Portland, Ore.) and sophomore Darragh Mahns (Missoula, Mont.) all earned Sunday night swims with times of 44.65, 44.96 and 45.06, respectively.
 
The Pioneer women put four swimmers into tonight's 200 Breast A-Final with an impressive collection of swims on Sunday morning. Junior Charlotte Simon (Saint Remy, France) led the quartet with a 2:15.48, followed by junior Emily Vandenberg (Ajax, Ontario), who reached the wall in 2:18.16, a 2:19.93 from junior Ally Yancy (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and a 2:19.98 from sophomore Brandi Vu (Longmont, Colo.). Freshman Sophia Bricker (Colorado Springs, Colo.) qualified for tonight's B-Final to earn another swim in her first championship-style meet in her collegiate career.
 
On the men's side, junior Adriel Sanes (Rosharon, Texas) turned in the fastest prelim time in the event with a 1:56.98. Junior Anthony Nosack (Beaverton, Ore.) and junior Cy Jager (Moscow, Idaho) earned B-Final swims with times of 2:01.86 and 2:02.36, respectively.
 
2019 NCAA Qualifier Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) swam the women's 200 fly on Sunday morning, taking third in the prelims with a 1:58.81. Senior Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass.) will join Valette in the A-Final tonight with her 2:00.27. Junior Uma Knaven (Chapel Hill, N.C.) will swim in tonight's B-Final after her 2:05.71.
 
Sophomore David Mihalic (Ljubljana, Slovenia) will represent the Denver men in the 200 Fly when he swims in the B-Final on Sunday night after his 1:50.50.
