DENVER – The No. 13 University of Denver women's lacrosse team is set to host No. 6 Stony Brook on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. MT. The Pioneers (3-0) will face the Seawolves (0-0) for their second contest of the 2019 season, after they compete against Colorado on Friday, Feb. 22.
The Crimson and Gold are 5-3 all-time against Stony Brook, going a perfect 2-0 at home in Peter Barton after taking down the Seawolves 15-5 in 2008 and 14-4 in 2010. Last season the Pioneers fell 16-3 on the road in New York.
With three contests under their belt in the new season, Denver is averaging 13 goals per game, 22 shots on goal per game and a .717 shot on goal percentage. Senior
Julia Feiss leads the team with seven goals and 20 shots on the year, good enough for the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week honor on Feb. 19.
Hannah Liddy leads the Pioneers with 14 points this season, ranking No. 12 overall in the NCAA.
The Seawolves will open their 2019 run with a trip to Colorado, first facing the Buffs on Friday, Feb. 22 then heading to the Mile High City. Last year they wrapped up the 2018 campaign with a 20-1 mark, going a perfect 7-0 in the America East and finished the season ranked No. 6 in the NCAA RPI. Stony Brook is currently ranked No. 6 in the IWCLA Coaches Poll, No. 5 in the US Lacrosse Poll and No. 4 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
