Pioneers See Five-Shot Improvement on Day Two of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

Denver 10th through 36 holes of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The University of Denver golf team continued its solid play at day two of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Saturday. The Pioneers fired a team score of 295, 7-over-par.
DU closed out the round in 10th despite the improved scoring on the afternoon, but remain within striking distance of a top-five finish heading into Sunday.
The team score was a five-stroke improvement over round one on Friday.
Par for the 7,305-yard course was 72 at the Classic Club.
For a second straight day, the duo of second-year players John Sand and Esteban Missura came ready to go, with each again shooting a 1-over 73 for the round to tie for 15th.
No. 18 Texas Tech holds a two-stroke lead on Boise State at the top of the team leaderboard after two days of play at 4-under.
On the individual side, the Broncos' Skyler Eubank sits in first at 8-under, three strokes ahead of the nearest competition.
Head coach Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Cal McCoy, Esteban Missura, John Sand, Carson Griggs and Jun Ho Won.
Jackson Solem, Eric Hagen and Roy Kang also competed, but as individuals.
We did a lot of good things today," assistant coach Brandon Wilkins said. "I was proud of the way the guys fought. John and Esteban are playing some great golf. It's definitely a testament to their hard work they put in over the off-season. We are to continuing to improve daily and trending to a great final round."
McCoy got into a groove on Saturday, posting a 2-over 74 to move into a tie for 52nd. The 74 was a three-shot jump from his first 18 holes on Friday.
Griggs wrapped up his round tied for 86th.
Ho Won bounced back from a rough first round to fire a 75 on day two, a nine-stroke improvement.
Hagen sits tied for 41st after 36 holes of play at 6-over.
Kang put up a 2-over 74 on the day.
Solem finished his day tied for 92nd.
Final-round action of the tournament is set for Sunday.
