McCoy Tied for Sixth after 36 Holes of Oregon Duck Invitational

CRESWELL, OREGON – The University of Denver men's golf team opened up the Duck Invitational on Monday with the first and second rounds of the tournament. Cal McCoy posted a one-under second round to jump up the leaderboard and finish the day in a tie for sixth place. As a team, DU fired a first-round 301, 13-over-par and finished the day with a second-round 300, 12-over-par.

"Hats off to Cal, he played awesome in really tough conditions today," said head coach Erik Billinger. "Tomorrow is a new day and we need to bring our competitiveness out and play better."

Overall the Pioneers (25-over) are tied for 10th with fellow Summit League team Oral Roberts. The field is chasing Oregon State and Oregon, who are tied at one-over par after two rounds.

Par at the 7,145-yard Emerald Valley Golf Club was 72.

McCoy, the freshman standout, led DU in round one, posting a one-over 73, including two birdies on his front nine. He followed up with four more birdies in round two, en route to a one-under-par 71 to finish at one-over for the championship. McCoy is tied for 6th place with 18 holes to play and sits just four strokes back of the leader, Cameron Kaneko (four-under-par) out of the University of Hawaii.

Despite a triple-bogey seven, Sand continued to grind in the second round, posting a four-over-par with three birdies on his second round. Missura made just one birdie in his second round while posting a seven-over-par 79. Sand is currently tied for 52nd place while Missura is tied for 67th place.
