
Denver Finishes Fifth at Ping Cougar Classic

PROVO, UTAH – The University of Denver men's golf team completed competition at the Ping Cougar Classic on Saturday. The Pios finished fifth in the 15-team field after shooting a final round four-over 292, finishing at 14-under par for the tournament. The host school, BYU, won the tournament at 24-under par.
Head coach Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Cal McCoy, Esteban Missura, Eric Hagen, John Sand and Carson Griggs.
Senior Roy Kang competed, but as an individual.
"We have a ton of positives to take from this week," said Billinger. "We had the lead late in the tournament against a lot of good teams. Top 15 finishes individually for John, Esteban and Cal were excellent. We are going to take the positive and the confidence from the this event and play hard next week at conference."
Missura and Sand both finished tied for eighth place after posting five-under par for the 54 hole tournament. Missura recorded three birdies and three bogeys for an even par final round while Sand carded a three-over 75.
McCoy finished tied for 14th place, at three-under par for the tournament. He recorded and even par final round that included one eagle and two bogeys.
Griggs fired a final round 75 to finish at one-over for the tournament, tied for 30th place.
Hagen recorded two birdies and an eagles but five bogeys led to a final round 73. He finished at eight-over for the tournament, tied for 60th place.
Kang continued his solid showing, recording a final round 75. He finished tied for 22nd place.
Up Next: Denver will return to action next weekend at the Summit League tournament in Newton, Kansas beginning on April 28.
