Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, N.Y.) and women's swimmer
Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) earned Summit League Swimmer of the Year awards from the league office on Wednesday.
Auchinachie finished the 2019 NCAA Championships last week as an All-American in the 50 free and 100 free, breaking school records in both events at the championships. The Denver sophomore finished 11
th in the 100 free (42.13), 16
th in the 50 free (19.37) and 25
th in the 200 free (1:34.24) in Austin, Texas. In the prelims of his All-American races, Auchinachie finished ninth in the 100 free (19.13) and 13
th in the 50 free (41.81). Auchinachie earned 2018 All-Summit League honors in the 200 free relay, 50 free, 400 medley relay, 100 back, 100 free and 400 free relay. The New York native's points earned the Pioneers a 36
th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Valette took 37
th in the 100 fly with a time of 52.66 and 36
th in the 200 fly with a school record 1:57.01, shattering her previous school record by 0.9 seconds in the event. During the regular season, Valette earned two wins in the 100 fly, one in the 200 IM, five in the 200 free relay, two in the 400 free relay, once in the 800 free relay, five in the 200 medley relay and two in the 400 medley relay. Valette earned All-Summit League honors in the 200-yard Medley Relay, 800-yard Freestyle Relay, 100-yard Butterfly, 400-yard Medley Relay, 200-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Butterfly and 400-yard Freestyle Relay.
