Denver to Face Michigan in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament

ANN ARBOR – The University of Denver women's lacrosse team is set to face Michigan on Sunday, May 12 (10 a.m. MT) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Pioneers defeated USC 11-10 in overtime on Friday night to move on to the next round and improved their record to 15-3 on the year. The Wolverines sit at 16-3 after defeating Jacksonville 13-8 in their first NCAA Tournament game in program history.
 
This marks at Denver's fourth trip to the second round of the Tournament, advancing in 2013, 2014 and 2018. Eliza Radochonski led the Pioneers to victory on Friday night, totaling a team-high three goals and the overtime game-winner. Kendra Lanuza, Julia Feiss and Bea Behrins all contributed two goals to push the Pioneers past the Trojans, while Carson Gregg and Amelia Cole held down the barrier in net, totaling a combined seven saves.
 
Earlier this season the Crimson and Gold lost to the Wolverines in a competitive game at home in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Michigan took home a 12-10 victory in the two teams' first-ever meeting. That day, Bea Behrins led the Pioneers with three goals and Quintin Hoch-Bullen followed with one. Michigan out-shot Denver 33-21, but the Crimson and Gold were better at the center circle, winning 13 draws while the Wolverines only won 11.
 
Michigan's first-ever post season run is led by head coach Hannah Neilsen who is in her second season at the helm of the program. Caitlin Muir leads the team with 37 goals and 57 points this season, she totaled three goals and one assists against JU on Friday night. Mira Shane has spent 834 minutes in net for Michigan, totaling 139 saves, a .502 save percentage and 9.92 goals-against average.
