PROVO, Utah – With diving remaining, the University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs have a commanding lead in duals against BYU after competition on Friday afternoon at Richards Building Pool. Denver won 18 of 28 swimming events on Friday.

Denver opened the meet with a sweep of the 200 medley relays. On the women's side,
Natalie Arky (Highlands Ranch, Colo.),
Brandi Vu (Longmont, Colo.),
Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass.) and
Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) combined for a 1:42.51. The men got a victory in the event with a time of 1:29.72, swam by
Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, N.Y.),
Cy Jager (Moscow, Idaho),
Adriel Sanes (Rosharon, Texas) and
Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.).
In the first individual event of the afternoon, Denver's women claimed the top four spots in the 1000 free.
Andi Johnston (Fort Collins, Colo.) led the quartet with a 10:31.37.
Angie Lindsay (Beaverton, Ore.) finished second with a 10:40.69,
Izzy Smith (Leawood, Kan.) took third in 10:45.91 and
Taylor Stoll (Hartland, Wis.) clocked in at 10:51.58 to take fourth.
Riley Babson (Vail, Ariz.) and
Jesse Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) turned in a 1-2 finish in the men's 1000 free with times of 9:39.91 and 9:41.61, respectively.
Sofia Nosack (Beaverton, Ore.) and
Hugo Sykes (Weston, Conn.) continued Denver's winning ways by sweeping the 200 free with times of 1:53.60 and 1:41.43. Sykes headlined a group of four Pioneers that finished in the top four, as he was joined by
Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.),
Spencer Adrian (Portland, Ore.) and
Darragh Mahns (Missoula, Mont.).
Neil Wachtler (Waco, Texas) recorded his second win of the season in the 100 back to pad the Pioneers lead with a 49.70.
Patrick Groters (Santa Cruz, Aruba) finished second in the fourth men's event of the afternoon, reaching the wall in 51.99.
Vu turned in her third 100 breast win of the campaign with a 1:04.01 to increase the women's advantage in the dual. That win was quickly followed up by Cronin's seventh win of 2019-20 in the 200 fly, after she clocked in at 2:03.99. Valette took second in the 200 fly with her 2:05.65. Cronin completed her sweep of Friday's butterfly races with a 55.27 in the 100.
In back-to-back swimming events on either side of a break for diving, Auchinachie won a pair of events in the 50 free and 100 free, his ninth and 10
th sprint free wins of the season. Auchinachie swam the 50 free in an NCAA B Standard time of 19.94 and the 100 free in a time of 43.97. Farber followed closely behind in the 50 free, taking second with his 20.03.
In between the Auchinachie sprint wins, Valette captured the women's 100 free with a time of 51.45.
Wachtler and Groters continued their 2019-20 success in the backstroke events, once again taking the top two spots with times of 1:50.99 and 1:51.59. Sanes picked up his first individual event win of the afternoon and his fourth 200 breast victory of the season, clocking in at 2:02.02 in the event on Friday.
Johnston and Gilbert made it four wins out of four for the Denver distance freestylers. Johnston was timed at 5:10.63 in the women's race before Gilbert reached the final wall in 4:39.90.

Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario) capped off the women's meet with a win in the 200 free relay, combining for a 1:34.84.
