DENVER – University of Denver gymnastics sophomore Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) was named the Big 12 Conference Event Specialist of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
 
Vasquez posted the first perfect 10.0 of the 2020 NCAA season with her beam performance on Saturday at the Collegiate Challenge. Her score contributed to DU's 49.425 team tally on the event, which was a new school record for the first meet of the season.
 
The DU sophomore's score is just the second 10.0 on beam in program history. Denver's only other perfect 10 on beam belongs to Robyn King on March 14, 1997.
 
In the national rankings, Vasquez holds the No. 1 spot on beam. Denver's beam squad is also ranked No. 1 in the nation for the first time ever, and the team is ranked a program-record No. 2 overall.
 
This is the third Big 12 weekly award of Vasquez's career.
 
The University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, will host its home opener on Sunday, January 12, at 2 p.m. against Minnesota.
