DENVER – University of Denver gymnastics junior
Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) was named the Big 12 Conference Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Brown set a new career high with a near-perfect 9.975 on vault and tied her personal best on beam with a 9.900 during Denver's meet at No. 2 Florida with No. 18 Iowa State on February 7. Her season-high 39.700 in the all-around was the top score in the Big 12 and matched the second-best score in the nation this week.
The DU junior's near-perfect 9.975 on vault came as Denver competed five-up, five-count on the event, leaving no room for error in the lineup. DU's final vault tally of 49.325 was a new season high. Her season-high-tying 9.950 on floor also kept Denver from counting a low score from earlier in the rotation.
Brown's scores on all four events contributed to Denver's 197.250 performance, which matched the team's top road score of the season and tied the fourth-best away score in program history.
This is Brown's first conference award of the season and the sixth of her career – which includes three Gymnast of the Week honors in 2019.
A Denver gymnast has now earned Gymnast of the Week nods for three weeks straight after senior
Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) did so for the last two weeks. Sophomore
Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) adds three Event Specialist of the Week awards, giving Denver six weekly awards from the conference this season.
The No. 5-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, returns to Magness Arena on Sunday, February 16, at 2 p.m. when the Pioneers host George Washington.
