DENVER – The University of Denver women's gymnastics team continues to be ranked in the top five nationally, coming in at No. 5 in the Road to Nationals rankings released on Monday. DU has held a spot in the top five every week in 2020.
Denver improved its season average to 196.992 following Friday's 197.250 at Florida, which matched the team's top road score of the season and tied the fourth-highest away score in program history.
Through the first six meets of the season, DU has never had a season average as high as it does this season. Denver's previous record for highest average through the first half of the regular season was 196.879 in 2019.
Denver maintained its top-five rankings on bars and beam while moving up on vault and floor. DU is ranked No. 5 on both bars (49.346) and beam (49.288), and the vault squad is closing in on the top five with its season-best tie for No. 6 (49.154). On floor, Denver improved its ranking for the second week in a row, moving up to No. 13 (49.204).
For the second-straight week, four Denver gymnasts are nationally ranked. Junior
Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) and senior
Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) are once again the only two gymnasts from the same team ranked in the top five with Brown coming in at No. 3 (39.579) and Karr at No. 4 (39.550).
Brown is ranked in the top 15 on all four events including tied for No. 6 on floor (9.925). Following her career-high 9.975 on vault, she moved into a tie for No. 10 on the event (9.883). She is also No. 12 on beam (9.887) and tied for No. 14 on bars (9.883).
After scoring a perfect 10.0 on February 7, Karr moved into the top three in the country on vault, holding the No. 3 spot (9.912). She adds another top-10 ranking with a tie for No. 10 on beam (9.892), and she is tied for No. 19 on floor (9.896).
Sophomore
Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) leads Denver in the beam rankings, moving up to a tie for No. 2 (9.925).
Junior
Emily Glynn (Longmont, Colo.) gives DU three student-athletes in the bars rankings as well, moving up to No. 19 (9.871), which matches the highest ranking of her career.
The University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, returns home for back-to-back meets beginning with hosting George Washington on Sunday, February 16, at 2 p.m. in Magness Arena.
