USAFA, Colo. – The University of Denver men's and women's diving teams were in action this past weekend at the 2020 Air Force Diving Invite.
"Overall, we performed well and took great steps toward achieving our goals at the Summit League Championships next week," diving coach
Aaron D'Addario said. "It is always great to be in a contest with an opportunity to performance a second list. Performing three lists is a unique and challenging experience because it is beyond what is expected at conference and zones. It was a benefit for Alex and Jason to perform three lists. This concludes a productive last six weeks, and the results are evidence that their hard work and dedication to the process is paying dividends. I'm excited to see how we perform next week."
In the women's 1-meter, senior
Sammy Walker (Los Gatos, Calif.) took 14
th with a 246.25 and sophomore
Kylie Katsuyoshi (Morgan Hill, Calif.) took 19
th with a 230.65. Walker added a 12
th-place finish on the 3-meter board with a 259.15. With her 12
th-place finish, Walker advanced to the second-round of the World-Cup style elimination format, finishing just four points off a spot to the quarterfinals.
On the men's side in the prelims, freshman
Jason Gleason (Olalla, Wash.) finished 12
th in the 3-meter with a 262.55 and senior
Alex Morgan (Dyer, Ind.) took 14
th with a 255.90. Morgan led the Denver men with an 11
th-place finish on the 1-meter board (275.45) and Gleason finished 18
th after his 230.55.
Morgan advanced to the 1m semifinals, finishing third in his semifinal with a 265.80 to end his event. Gleason advanced to the quarterfinals in the 3-meter, taking second in his round 2 group with a 295.50 before scoring a 279.50 in the quarters.
UP NEXT: The men's and women's squads head to Sioux Falls for the 2020 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 19-22.
