DU Extends Top-Five Rankings Streak with Record Average Score

Denver ranked in top five for 10th consecutive week

DENVER – The University of Denver women's gymnastics team maintained it No. 5 national ranking in the Road to Nationals rankings released on Monday.
 
DU has now been ranked inside the top five in the country for 10 consecutive weeks, dating back to Week 10 of the 2019 season. Prior to that, Denver had never been ranked inside the top five nationally.
 
Denver matched its top score of the 2020 season with a 197.425 on Sunday against George Washington, improving the team's average score to 197.054. It is the first time in program history that DU has achieved a season average above 197.000 prior to the start of NQS/RQS rankings.
 
After setting new program records on bars (49.575) and beam (49.650) during February 16's meet, DU continues to hold top-five rankings on both events. The bars squad moved up to No. 4 with a 49.379 average while the team is once again ranked No. 5 on beam (49.339). Denver adds another top-10 ranking with its No. 8 spot on vault (49.154) and is also ranked No. 14 on floor (49.182).
 
Four DU student-athletes are nationally-ranked for the third straight week. Senior Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) is once again ranked in the all-around and on all four events. After tying the all-time DU record in the all-around (39.775), she moved up to No. 3 nationally with a 39.582 average. She is also No. 5 on vault (9.911), No. 8 on beam (9.900), tied for No. 13 on floor (9.904) and tied for No. 23 on bars (9.868).
 
Junior Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) is ranked No. 8 in the all-around (39.493) and adds top-25 spots on three events. After setting a new career high on beam (9.925) on February 16, she moved up to No. 9 (9.893) on the event for her highest ever beam ranking. She is also No. 13 on bars (9.889) and tied for No. 15 on vault (9.882).
 
Sophomore Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) leads Denver's three top 10-ranked gymnasts on beam. After scoring her second perfect 10.0 of the season, she is ranked No. 2 in the nation (9.936).
 
Junior Emily Glynn (Longmont, Colo.) also gives DU three nationally-ranked gymnasts on bars. Her season-high 9.925 against George Washington moved her up to No. 16 (9.879), which becomes her highest-ever national ranking.
 
The University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, competes at home for the second week in a row when the Pioneers welcome No. 15 BYU to Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday, February 22, at 6 p.m.
 
NCAA REGIONALS ARE COMING TO DENVER
