SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs continued their strong performances on the third of four days at the 2020 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the Midco Aquatic Center.
Adriel Sanes (Rosharon, Texas) pulled another individual school record off the board, breaking Tim Cottam's 2015 100 breast mark by 0.68 seconds. Denver's men's 400 medley relay also took a record off the board with their 3:07.93 on Friday night.
Jason Gleason (Olalla, Wash.) earned two NCAA Zone Diving scores on the 1-meter board Friday evening, scoring a 306.30 in the prelims and a 303.20 in the finals. Gleason earned his second spot on the podium at this year's Summit League Championship, taking third Friday night.
Alex Morgan (Dyer, Ind.) finished fifth for the Pioneers on the 1-meter board with a 288.00.
Denver opened the swimming portion of the meet with a sweep of the 400 medley relays.
Natalie Arky (Highlands Ranch, Colo.),
Brandi Vu (Longmont, Colo.),
Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass.) and
Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) combined to swim a 3:37.92, while on the men's side, the quartet of
Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, N.Y.),
Cy Jager (Moscow, Idaho),
Neil Wachtler (Waco, Texas) and
Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.) broke both the program and Summit League Championship record with a 3:07.93.
The Pioneers opened the individual swimming portion of Friday's day of competition with the 400 IM.
Uma Knaven (Chapel Hill, N.C.) reached the wall first in 4:21.43,
Emily Vandenberg (Ajax, Ontario) took third with a 4:25.94,
McKayla Sanchez (Temecula, Calif.) swam fourth in 4:26.61 and
Charlotte Simon (Saint Remy, France) grabbed a sixth place finish with a finals time of 4:30.52.
Denver's men earned the first podium sweep of the evening as
Trent Panzera (Gauteng, South Africa),
Riley Babson (Vail, Ariz.) and
Blayze Jessen (Denver, Colo.) reached the wall in 3:54.74, 3:55.34 and 4:01.25, respectively to take the top three places.
The Pioneer women took the top five spots and six of the top seven in the 200 free on Friday night.
Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario) took the crown with a 1:49.54. Valette finished second with a 1:49.72,
Livi Schmid (Fairfax Station, Va.) rounded out the podium with a 1:50.35,
Andi Johnston (Fort Collins, Colo.) finished fourth in 1:50.52 and
Angie Lindsay (Beaverton, Ore.) took fifth in 1:50.80.
Sofia Nosack (Beaverton, Ore.) rounded out the Pioneers in the A-Final with a seventh place finish, clocking in at 1:52.47.
Hugo Sykes (Weston, Conn.) kept the Pioneers winning ways rolling in the men's 200 free with a 1:37.67.
Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.) and
Spencer Adrian (Portland, Ore.) tied for fourth, clocking in at 1:39.37.
Darragh Mahns (Missoula, Mont.) finished sixth in 1:39.57 and
Nathan Rock (Boulder, Colo.) swam the event in 1:40.22 to take seventh.
Vu captured the 100 breast title with a 1:02.23, while
Ally Yancy (Cave Creek, Ariz.) finished fourth for the Pioneer women with her time of 1:03.20.
Sanes led a quartet of Pioneers that took the top four spots in the men's 100 breast with his school record time of 52.32. Jager clocked in at 53.52 to earn an NCAA B Standard mark and finish second.
Anthony Nosack (Beaverton, Ore.) rounded out the podium with a 55.74 and
Harrison Fudge (Stanford, Ill.) took fourth after his 55.83.
Arky was the lone Pioneer in the 100 back on Friday night, but she kept Denver's streak of winning events in tact with her 54.37.
Wachtler earned his second NCAA B mark of the day in the 100 back to take the men's race in 47.28.
Patrick Groters (Santa Cruz, Aruba) finished second to round out the Pioneers day with a 48.26.
Denver extended its streak to 139 event wins in the last 140 swimming events at the Summit League Championships.
