DENVER – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs have voted on their 2020-21 captains, head coach Alicia Hicken-Franklin announced this week.
 
"I am excited for this group to lead our team next season," Hicken-Franklin said. "Each person has a great deal to offer in their character, values and performance. This is also a very balanced group of captains with each person bringing something different. I am very excited to work together and move this team forward."
 
The women's program will be guided by Uma Knaven (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario), Charlotte Simon (Saint Remy, France) and Emily Vandenberg (Ajax, Ontario). Denver's men will be captained by Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, New York), Cy Jager (Moscow, Idaho), Darragh Mahns (Missoula, Montana) and Adriel Sanes (US Virgin Islands).
 
Knaven earned All-Summit League honors in the 400 IM in 2020, winning the event at the championships with a 4:21.43, while also taking fifth in the200 IM and 200 fly.
 
Leckie earned All-Summit League honors in the 800 free relay, 200 free relay, 50 free, 200 free, 100 free, 400 free relay after a very successful championships, highlighted by wins in five of those events and a second place finish in the 50 free.
 
Simon won the 200 IM and the 200 breast to earn All-Summit League honors in both events in her junior season. The rising senior won two 100 breast races, five 200 breast races, three 200 IMs and one 200 medley relay last season.
 
Vandenberg finished second in the 200 IM and 200 breast and third in the 400 IM at the 2020 Summit League Championships to cap off her junior campaign.
 
Auchinachie, who will captain the men's program for the second-consecutive season, qualified for the 2020 NCAA Championships in the 50 free, 100 back, 100 free and four relays before the meet was cancelled due to the coronavirus. The rising senior set five school records in his junior season, including four at the Princeton Invite.
 
Jager was scheduled to swim on Denver's relays at the NCAA Championships as well, having been a part of three school-record relays earlier in the season. The Denver senior won four events at the Summit League Championship and finished second in two others.
 
Mahns was a part of one 400 free relay win in his second season with the program, and earned top-10 finishes in three events at the Summit League Championships in February. The rising junior was fourth on the team in the 100 free and fifth on the team in the 200 free this season.
 
In addition to a slate of relay swims at the NCAA Championships, Sanes also would have seen action in the 100 breast and 200 breast had the meet been held. Sanes was a part of six school records, including breaking his own record in the 200 breast, setting the program's top times at the Princeton Invite and then again at the Summit League Championship.
