Stapley scored 1:04 later to give the Pioneers a lead at 5:49 that they never relinquished.

Denver led 3-1 at the first intermission following Buium's marker at 13:23 and added five more tallies in the middle frame to take an 8-1 advantage heading into the third period. Works registered his second of the game midway through the final stanza.

DU outshot LU 58-14 and finished 2-for-3 on the power play, with Mazur and Wright registering man-advantage markers late in the second period. The Lions went 0-for-4 on the power play.
