[6/5] Denver Begins Two-Game Home Stint with Marquette Saturday

Last Time Out
Denver used an eight-goal second quarter to pull away from Providence and complete the season sweep of the Friars with a 19-11 win in Rhode Island. TD Ierlan went 14-for-14 in his Pioneer debut, with 10 ground balls, to earn USILA National Team of the Week honors. Alec Stathakis continued his hot start to the season, going 11-of-15 from the dot.
 
Alex Simmons and Jackson Morrill led the Denver offense with seven points apiece.
 
DI Series History
Denver is 9-2 all-time against Marquette, having won each of the last four games. The last five games have been decided by three goals or less, including one goal finishes in each of the last two meetings.
 
Other Team Notes
  • Head coach Bill Tierney is in his 12th season with the Pioneers, holding a 143-45 record at DU and a 415-138 career record in his 37th season.
  • Denver is fourth in senior class wins (2017-21) with 47, 10 behind national leaders Duke.
  • Yale transfer Jackson Morrill has recorded a point in 65-straight games, recording 254 points (126-128) during the stretch. That streak is the longest active streak in the country.  
  • The 2021 Denver Pioneers have players from 18 different states across the country.
    • Since turning Division I ahead of the 1999 season, the Pioneers have had players from 32 different states.
  • Ethan Walker is tied for Denver's career points record with fellow Canadian Wes Berg at 255.
    • Walker is also second in goals with 164 (24 behind Berg).
  • The Pioneers are ranked fourth in the country in opponent clearing percentage, limiting opponents to 76.6 percent in the clearing game.
  • Denver has four players with 20 goals apiece this season (Waler, Simmons, Morrill and Jack Hannah). It is the first time Denver has had four 20-goal scorers since the 2017 campaign (Walker, Connor Cannizzaro, Austin French, Colton Jackson)
What's Next
The University of Denver men's lacrosse program, presented by Your Front Range Toyota Stores will wrap-up its two-game homestand when it welcomes Villanova to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on April 10. Faceoff is set for next Saturday at 12 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on Altitude TV and 104.3 The Fan.
