FORT COLLINS – The University of Denver Swimming team finished up its first race of the 2021-22 season on Sunday at the Horsetooth Open Water. The men's team finished first while the women's team placed third in the collegiate division.
The men's team won with a total of 23 point. The Pioneers were led by
Connor Hughes first-place finish with a time of 48:19. Rounding out the other top five finishers for DU were
Joseph Purdy (4 points, 48:40),
Riley Babson (5 points, 48:44)
Dylan Wright (6 points, 48:45) and
Brandon Chapman (7 points, 48:58).
On the women's side, the Crimson and Gold were powered by
Daniela Alfaro (2 points, 51:27),
Emily Pincus (11 points, 52:55), Jess Maeda (12 points, 53:05),
Aysia Leckie (19 points, 54:20) and
Izzy Smith (24 points, 54:46).
Denver returns to action for the Denver Relays on Oct. 2.
