Â
EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
DU sits at No. 5 in the Week 1 Road to Nationals rankings, the program's second highest first-week score. The team is also ranked in the top 10 on all four events, led by No. 4 rankings on bars and floor.
Â
Five Denver student-athletes appear in the individual rankings as well, starting with
Lynnzee Brown at No. 4 in the all-around and tied for No. 1 on floor. Mundell is tied for No. 5 in the all-around and hold top-10 rankings on vault and bars. Sophomores
Abbie Thompson and
Bella Mabanta are in the top 10 and top 25 on floor, respectively; and graduate student
Emily Glynn is in the top 15 on bars.
Â
QUICK HITS:
- Mundell captured the first Big 12 Gymnast of the Week honor for the 2022 season following her all-around debut on January 9.
- Not only was DU's 197.000 its highest ever score in a season opener, it also marked the earliest that Denver has hit the 197+ mark in any season.
- Denver also set or tied first-meet records for its team scores on vault (49.225) and floor (49.350).
- Four DU student-athletes set or tied career highs in the season opener as well: Mundell on vault, floor and in the all-around; junior Emma Brown on beam; and both Thompson and Mabanta on floor.
- Some of Denver's student-athletes will be unavailable on Saturday due to COVID-19 health/safety and "return to play" protocols.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES:
Ohio State scored a 195.025 in its season opener at Arkansas on January 7, placing send behind the Razorbacks. Four different Buckeye gymnasts won at least a share of all four event titles including Elexis Edwards on vault. Edwards joined teammate Tory Vetter on the Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list.
