DENVER – University of Denver sophomore
Jessica Hutchinson was named Big 12 co-Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Hutchinson had the strongest meet of her career on Sunday, setting new career highs in the all-around (39.625) and on beam (9.950) while simultaneously posting or tying her season's best scores on the remaining three events.
Her beam routine came immediately following a fall in the previous routine and helped ensure that Denver would not count the fall toward its eventual team total of 49.425 – the top beam score in the conference last week and DU's second highest score of the season.
She won her second all-around title in as many weeks and added first-place finishes on beam and floor, and also led Denver's scoring on vault. All four of her routines contributed toward Denver's 196.850 performance to top Big 12 Conference opponent Iowa State in Sunday's meet.
Hutchinson shares this week's award with Oklahoma's Audrey Davis after both student-athletes tallied 39.625s in the all-around.
This is Hutchinson's first career Big 12 Gymnast of the Week award and her third weekly award from the Big 12 Conference after earning Newcomer of the Week honors twice in 2021.
Four Denver student-athletes have now combined for four weekly Big 12 Conference awards this year. Sophomore
Rylie Mundell and graduate student
Lynnzee Brown each have Gymnast of the Week honors, and sophomore
Bella Mabanta earned an Event Specialist of the Week nod.
No. 12 Denver travels to Fort Worth, Texas, for a showdown of Big 12 and Pac-12 teams at the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday, February 19. Joining DU are No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 18 Stanford and Washington.
