No. 11 Denver Heads to No. 8 Michigan on Sunday

DENVER – The 11th-ranked DU women's lacrosse team will make a trip to the Midwest to face undefeated No. 8 Michigan on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT.
 
Denver was handed its first loss of the season by No. 1 Boston College in a frigid matchup on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-5 in a game that was called after the third quarter due to below-0 temperatures.
 
Michigan is coming off a 17-13 win at Central Michigan last Sunday, Mar. 6.  The Wolverines currently rank fourth in the nation in goals allowed per game with 7.14, and fifth in the nation in goals per game at 16.43.
 
The Pioneers have the second-best defense in the NCAA at 5.83 goals allowed per game. 
 
Last Time Out
Denver fell 9-5 to Boston College on Wednesday, taking its first loss of the season and the first home loss for the Pios since Feb. 26, 2019, against Michigan. Senior Kayla DeRose led the Pioneers in scoring with two goals, while graduate students Bea Behrins and Sammie Morton and junior Charlotte Boote each netted one. DU was able to hold BC scoreless in the third quarter, which marked the first time this season that the Eagles failed to find the back of the net in a period.
 
DI Series History vs. Michigan
The Pioneers and the Wolverines have only played each other twice, splitting the all-time series 1-1. Michigan won the first matchup between the two 12-10 at Peter Barton Stadium on Feb. 26, 2019.
 
Last Meeting vs. Michigan
The two teams last clashed during the NCAA Tournament on May 12, 2019 in Ann Arbor, with Denver winning 9-5 and sending the Pioneers to their first ever Elite Eight appearance in program history. Quintin Hoch-Bullen put on a dominating five-goal performance that was backed up by Elizabeth Behrins' goal and two assists.

  • Bea Behrins scored the 148th goal of her collegiate career on Wednesday, equaling Patience Baldwin for fifth place all-time in program history.
  •  Junior Sam Thacker was named the National Division-I Defensive Player of the Week by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Tuesday. The award is Thacker's first at the national level after being named Big East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Thacker leads the Pioneers with 21 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls this season.
  • Following her IWLCA honors, Thacker was also added to the 2022 Tewaaraton Watch List, joining teammate Bea Behrins who was placed on the list in February. The award honors the most outstanding men's and women's college lacrosse players in the country.
