Mattia Ros arrived at the University of Denver in January of 2019 from Venice, Italy. Arriving midway through the year, with very limited English capabilities at the time it was a large shift in his life, both culturally away from tennis and within the team he was placed. It was a challenge, however facing challenges and subsequently overcoming them has been a trend in Mattia's life and tennis career.

As a junior Mattia was one of the best young players in Europe, however an accident on court lead to him breaking his back at 16. This gave Mattia a lengthy spell on the side-lines during a key period of his Junior Development. Not to be stopped once back Mattia quickly found his feet under him regaining his level of play and passion for the game, committing to the University of Denver and challenging himself to an entirely new way of life.

His freshmen and sophomore years at DU were filled with success with him gaining mountain region rookie of the year as a freshman, gaining the team MVP both his freshmen and sophomore years, achieving a career high national singles ranking of 118 in the fall of his sophomore year and winning the Summit League regular season title his sophomore year where he played #1 or #2 singles in every match of the year.

His junior year he would see challenges thrown his way again, having more back issues Mattia had to have a surgery to remove a cist on his spine at the beginning of the fall. This again spelled a period on the side-lines, but true to form Mattia diligently overcame this and during the spring season was back leading the Pioneers from the top of the line up in a season where the Pioneers only lost one match before being cut short by covid. Another spanner thrown into the works, Mattia had to return to his home in Italy for a tough period of uncertainty. However, once back on American soil for his Senior year Mattia was once again primed to lead the Pioneers to a program record national ranking of #33 playing all year again at the top two singles spots.

Throughout his college experience Mattia has excelled in the classroom gaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering during which he worked on a project designing and building a machine for developing and testing sneakers for sportswear giant Nike. He graduated in 2021 with a 3.63 GPA before moving into graduate school where he is currently working on gaining a master's in finance. Beyond college Mattia plans to hang up his rackets and pursue a more conventional career within business and engineering, staying in the United States for the foreseeable future.

His impact both on and off the court on the tennis program will not be a feat easily repeated, leading the line-up from the top spot for essentially his whole career is rarely seen in college tennis. However, for those around him it is his personality which will be most fondly remembered, a guy who is unwaveringly nice and dependable, always available to be helpful for those around him whether with school or tennis related issues. His professionalism, dedication and character will be remembered for years to come within the program and will certainly aid him well as he moves beyond tennis into his career
