DENVER – University of Denver sophomore
Andrea Burguete Beltran was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Women's Tennis Peak Performer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The Burriana, Spain, native began the 2023 season with a total of five wins at the Long Beach State Winter Invitational on January 20-22, going undefeated in singles play and adding two wins in doubles.
In singles, Burguete Beltran notched a straight-sets win on Sunday over Pacific's Tomi Mani and began the weekend with a victory in three sets over San Francisco's Maria Martinez Vaquero. On January 21, she fought back after dropping the first set to Sarah Medik from Long Beach State to win 6-2 in both the second and third sets.
In doubles with her partner, senior
Britt Pursell, Burguete Beltran captured a 6-1 win over LBSU's Masuda/Dondonay and a 6-3 win over Main/Sam from Pacific.
All of Burguete Beltran's matches came on the No. 1 court for DU's respective matchups throughout the weekend.
This is the first Summit League weekly award of Burguete Beltran's career. She was named the 2021 Summit League Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Summit League Team after her freshman season.
DU begins dual match play when it hosts Colorado State on January 28 and Colorado on January 29 at Denver Tennis Park.
