PREVIEW: Denver Welcomes Colorado Christian Wednesday

Pioneer make their only stop at home on Wednesday in a stretch of five of six outside of Hamilton

DENVER  – The University of Denver men's basketball program will continue its 2023-24 non-conference schedule on Wednesday when the Pioneers welcome Colorado Christian to Hamilton Gymnasium. Tip on the Summit League Network and 104.3 The Fan HD3 is set for 7 p.m. MT.

SERIES HISTORY:
The Pioneers are a perfect 2-0 since the Denver program turned Division I in 1998-99. In the overall series history, Denver is 18-6 against CCU, winners of each of the last 10.

100 GAMES PLAYED:
Both fifth-year guard Tommy Bruner and graduate student transfer Jaxon Brenchley have crossed the century mark in games played in their NCAA career this season.

DOUBLE DIGIT WORKLOAD:
Tommy Bruner
leads the Pioneers with 77 career games in double figures, including seven-straight contest spanning back to the end of last season. Touko Tainamo is the next closest Pioneer with 33 games in double figures, including in four of the five games for Denver this season.

CRASHING THE OFFENSIVE GLASS:
Denver enters the week 43rd in the country per game, averaging 14.6 offensive boards per contest. Denver pulled down a DU DI-best 24 offensive rebounds in its season-opening win against UC San Diego.

TAKING CARE OF THE BASKETBALL:
Last time out, Denver turned the ball over just one time in its loss at South Alabama on November 17. The Pioneers entered the week 12th in the country in turnovers per game at 8.4 per contest. Denver has had five turnovers or less in each of its last two contests. DU didn't have a single  game with five turnovers or less last year, and only one in Jeff Wulbrun's first year in 2021-22. Denver's 1 total turnover last time out was its lowest in its Division I history, and zero turnovers in the first half was the first full half without a turnover for the Pioneers since January 19, 2013, vs. Utah State. 

DENVER IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS:
Denver enters the week sixth in the country in free-throw attempts per game (29.4) and third in free-throw makes per game (21.6) and 102nd in free-throw percentage (73.5). Tommy Bruner ranks 12th in the country in free-throw attempts (37), fifth in the country in free-throw makes (32) and third in the country in points per game (24.2). Touko Tainamo ranks 22nd nationally in double-doubles (2), sixth in free-throw attempts (42), fifth in free-throws made (32) and 28th in rebounds per game (10.4).

Denver will return to the road on Sunday to battle Texas A&M-Commerce. Tip is set for 1 p.m. CT/12 p.m. MT.
