Denver Sweeps Summit League Swimming and Diving Titles

The Pioneer women captured their 10th-straight Summit League Championship, while the Denver men won their ninth in 10 attempts

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs continued their Summit League Championship success, taking both team titles on Saturday night at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
 
The women's program's win is their 10th-straight Summit League Championship, while the Denver men captured their ninth in 10 attempts. Denver's men's win is the program's 13th Division I conference championship title. DU's women won its 12th Division I conference championship overall.
 
Denver combined for eight event wins and eight more NCAA Standards in the final night of the Championship.

Nika Spehar began Denver's finals session with a victory in the mile race, reaching the final wall in 16:47.97. Angie Lindsay finished second in 17:02.82.
 
Denver swept the top five spots in the men's mile. Kieran Watson led the Pioneer group with a 15:17.28. Riley Babson finished second in 15:19.15 and Joseph Hancock took third in 15:23.46 to round out the podium places. Joseph Purdy finished fourth and Connor Hughes rounded out the group of five Pios with times of 15:38.34 and 15:39.70, respectively.
 
The Pioneer women grabbed four of the top five spots in the women's 200 back. Natalie Arky won the race in 1:53.94. Sofia Nosack took third in 2:00.26, followed by Mina Ada Solaker in fourth and Spehar making the quick turnaround to finish fifth. Haley Chesno captured seventh in 2:03.71.
 
Dylan Wright earned an NCAA B Standard on the men's side, winning the 200 back in 1:43.85.
 
Denver qualified four for the 100 free and Erika Remington earned a spot on the podium with a third-place finish in 50.39.  Megan Lucyshyn swam the 100 in 51.23 to take fifth, Mary O'Neil finished sixth in 51.34 and Kali Metuzals clocked in at 51.67 to take eighth.
 
Frank Tirone also took the last spot on the men's 100 free podium, finishing third in 43.99.
 
Jessica Maeda got Denver back in the win column, winning the 200 breast with an NCAA B Standard time of 2:12.69. Sophia Bricker finished third in 2:17.60, Peyton Mullowney reached the wall in fourth after her 2:17.74 and Sophia Remington clocked in at 2:21.36 to take seventh.
 
Denver's men widened its lead in the men's 200 breast, as Alex Lynch won the A-Final and led a group of five Pioneers in the race with his 1:56.25. Lynch won the race by the slimmest of margins, edging out St. Thomas' Joe Rudd by 0.01 seconds. Marco Nosack also earned an NCAA B Standard in the eventh with his 1:56.66, making the podium places separated by just 0.41 seconds. Drew Grespin earned a fifth place finish to lead a trio of consecutive Pioneer places. Kelby Modene and Luca Foord finished sixth and seventh for the Pioneers.  
 
The Pioneer women took the top two steps of the podium in the women's 200 fly. Mia Moulden won the race with a 2:01.56, followed by a 2:03.06 from Daniela Alfaro. Mary O'Neil recorded a fifth-place finish in the event with her 2:05.75.
 
Denver closed out the individual swimming events with Brandon Chapman and Dan Kunin taking the top two spots in the men's 200 fly. Chapman won the race in 1:46.05, followed by Kunin's 1:47.71.  
 
Zyad Morsy took second in the men's 3-meter on Saturday night. Eli Lubell grabbed third in 316.20 and Jon Brouillette finished seventh with a 266.10.
 
The Pioneers won the women's 400 free relay to close out their league championship. Metuzals, Lucyshyn, Ines Marin and Erika Remington combined for a time of 3:22.35.
 
Denver's men closed out the competition with a second-place finish in the men's 400 free relay. Tirone, Donat Fabian, Chapman and Nosack combined for a time of 2:58.46.
