DENVER – The [13/16] University of Denver men's lacrosse program will open its 2023 BIG EAST slate on Saturday when the Pioneers head to [15/15] Georgetown. Faceoff at Cooper Field is set for 10 a.m. MT, and will be broadcast on FloSports.
DI Series History vs. Georgetown
Denver holds an 8-5 lead in the all-time series, but the Hoyas have taken each of the last three and five of the last seven in the series. The Pioneers are 3-1 at Cooper Field, with Georgetown's lone home win coming in overtime in the two programs second of three meetings in 2021.
Last Time Out – No. 19 Denver 17, No. 15 Ohio State 12
After recording his first career hat trick the previous week at Yale,
Stephen Avery scored seven to lead Denver's offensive in a 17-12 win over No. 15 Ohio State at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on March 19.
JJ Sillstrop added five goals for the Pioneers.
Bill Tierney's Final Season
Head coach
Bill Tierney will roam the Denver sidelines for his 14
th and final season in 2023. Tierney enters the game at 161-57 at DU and 433-150 in his 39
th season as a college head lacrosse coach.
All Across the Country
The 2023 Denver Pioneers have players from 19 different states, bringing the program's total in the Division I era to 35 different states. The 2023 Pioneers added three new states to the program's list: Iowa (
Michael Provenza), Kansas (
Cade Eldred) and Utah (
Chris Caldwell).
