Daniel Sancho Arbizu, Britt Pursell win Peak Performer of the Week honors

DENVER – University of Denver tennis players sophomore Daniel Sancho Arbizu and senior Britt Pursell were named the TicketSmarter Summit League Tennis Peak Performers of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Sancho Arbizu went 3-1 on the weekend including winning the clinching point in Denver's win over Boise State in a neutral-site match on Saturday, defeating BSU's James Van Herzeele in No. 3 singles by a score of 6-2 7-5. He added two more doubles wins during Denver's trip to Los Angeles, winning 6-4 over LMU's Gonzalez/Ranaivo on Friday and then 6-3 over BSU's Marquardt/Sippel on Saturday to help DU win the doubles point both days.

This is the second Summit League weekly award of Sancho Arbizu's career after first winning it for Week 5 of this season.

Pursell was a perfect 8-0 during Denver's busy week, winning all four singles and doubles matches including in DU's first two Summit League matches of the season. In total, the senior dropped just one set – a close 7-5 second-set against Air Force in her fourth singles match of the weekend. In her other three singles matches, she lost exactly four games each time. In doubles, she only lost a combined six games including a bagel against St. Thomas' Knewtson/Snezkho in No. 1 doubles. In her other League doubles match, she finished with a 6-1 win over Omaha's Absisan/Adkins, also in No. 1 doubles.

This is the second Summit League weekly award of the season for Pursell and the seventh of her career.

Denver's tennis programs have now swept the weekly Summit League awards three times this year. The Denver women have now won Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honors in seven consecutive weeks while Sancho Arbizu's win gives the men their third of the year.

The DU men's team returns to Denver Tennis Park to host Idaho State and Purdue on March 10 and March 12, respectively. The DU women travel to Massachusetts to face Harvard on March 11 and Boston on March 12.
