Casey Dornbach Signs AHL Contract with Iowa Wild

Denver hockey forward inks professional deal

DENVER – Forward Casey Dornbach of the University of Denver hockey team has signed an American Hockey League contract with the Iowa Wild for the 2023-24 season, the club announced on Monday. Dornbach will join Iowa for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign on an amateur tryout.
 
Dornbach suited up for the Pioneers this past season as a graduate-transfer after being a member of Harvard University's men's hockey team for the previous four years. At Denver, he played in all 40 games in 2022-23 while recording a career-high 13 goals and adding 21 assists. He finished tied for third on the team in both points (34) and assists and ranked tied for fourth in goals. His .171 shooting percentage was the second-highest on the team (minimum 40 shots).
 
The Edina, Minnesota, native registered points in 15 of his first 20 games with the DU last season, totaling nine goals and 13 assists. During that run, he tied a career long with a six-game point streak from Oct. 21-Nov. 4 (2g/6a). Overall, Dornbach recorded four point streaks of at least three games throughout the campaign, including a three-game streak with a goal and four assists from March 4-11.
 
One night after scoring twice in his Denver debut on Oct. 7 versus Notre Dame, Dornbach appeared in his 100th career NCAA contest on Oct. 8 against Maine. He played in his 125th career game on Jan. 27 against Colorado College at Ball Arena and picked up his 120th career point on March 4 at CC (assist).
 
The winger completed his collegiate career with 40 goals, 84 assists and 124 points in 138 games.
 
Dornbach spent four years at Harvard from 2018-2022 and graduated with his bachelor's degree from the school last spring. He recorded 25 points (8g/17a) in 34 games in 2021-22 while serving as team captain and helping the program win the Eastern College Athletic Conference championship. Overall, he totaled 90 points (27g/63a) in 98 career contests with Harvard and earned Ivy League and ECAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2018-19 (school didn't participate in athletics in 2020-21 due to COVID-19 pandemic).
 
The AHL contract with the Wild is a one-way deal, which keeps Dornbach in North America's top minor league for the entire 2023-24 season. Iowa has five games remaining this year and is fifth in the AHL Central Division with 74 points and a 32-25-5-5 record.
