DENVER – University of Denver Men's Basketball junior forward Touko Tainamo is set to represent his home country of Finland at the 2023 FISU World University Games from July 28 to August 8 in Chengdu, China.
 
Chengdu is the capital of China's Sichuan province.
 
Tainamo has been practicing back home this summer with the Finland National Challenger Team before returning to Denver this week to practice with his new Pioneer teammates in official summer practices. While he was back home, the team played four contests against Latvia, Estonia (twice), and the Philippines.
 
"I am very excited for this opportunity to represent my country and play against high-level competition," Tainamo said. "This is another chance for me to continue my development as a player and take the next step in basketball career."
 
The junior forward will then head back home to Finland on July 14 to continue to train with his challenger team before leaving on the 17th to China to play in some exhibition games before the actual event that starts on the 28th.
 
The Pioneers are currently training for the 2023-24 year.
