DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program will resume Summit League play on Saturday when the Pioneers welcome South Dakota State to Hamilton Gymnasium. Tip is set for 1 p.m. MT.
SERIES HISTORY:
South Dakota State holds a 21-5 record in the series' Division I history, winning each of the last 12 and eight of the last 12 trips to the Mile High City. Denver's last win came in January of 2017 in Denver, a 91-82 Pios win. In the program's entire history, South Dakota State leads 22-6 in the 28 all-time meetings.
DOUBLE DIGIT WORKLOAD:
Tommy Bruner leads the Pioneers with 89 career games in double figures, including 19-straight contests spanning back to the end of last season. Touko Tainamo is the next closest Pioneer with 43 games in double figures, including in 14 of the 17 games for Denver this season.
100 GAMES PLAYED:
Both fifth-year guard Tommy Bruner and graduate student transfer Jaxon Brenchley have crossed the century mark in games played in their NCAA career this season.
LAST TIME OUT:
Trailing by as many as 23 points in the first half, the Pioneers pulled all the way back to within two, but the comeback fell just short in an 86-82 loss to Northern Colorado on Saturday night in Greeley.
BRUNER NAMED TO LOU HENSON AWARD MID-SEASON WATCH LIST:
University of Denver men's basketball fifth-year guard Tommy Bruner has been named to the 2023-24 Lou Henson Player of the Year Award Mid-Season Watch List, CollegeInsider.com announced on Wednesday. Bruner leads the country in scoring, averaging 25.4 points per game ahead of the Pioneers return to Summit League play this weekend. The Denver guard has 12 20+ point games this season, including 30+ in five different contests.
