DENVER – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs reached the midway point of a double-dual against BYU and Wyoming on Friday night inside El Pomar Natatorium.
Denver's opening night was highlighted by two El Pomar Natatorium record swims.
Jessica Maeda finished the 200 breast in 2:12.78 and
Kieran Watson swam the 500 free in 4:26.75 to put new records on the board.

How it Happened:
Friday's action began with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter diving events.
Kaelyn Hinesley (267.30) and
Olivia Gordon (252.15) finished 2-3 for the Pioneer women. On the men's side,
Zyad Morsy earned a 379.50 to take the event title by over 100 points.
Dakotah Parker finished second with a 270.53.
Denver opened the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the women's 200 medley relay when the quartet of
Ali Beay,
Jessica Maeda,
Ines Marin and
Erika Remington combined for a time of 1:40.56.
In the first individual swimming event of the weekend meet,
Mina Ada Solaker led a 1-2 finish in the women's 400 IM with a 4:20.59. Summit League Women's Swimmer of the Week
Sabrina Rachjaibun finished second with her time of 4:23.52.
Marco Nosack and
Noah Laird finished 2-3 in the men's 400 IM to pick-up some points in both duals. Nosack finished the race in 3:58.52 and Laird reached the final wall in 3:59.91.
Frank Tirone earned a second place finish for the Denver men in the men's 100 free, tying with BYU's Joshua Reed in a time of 44.75.
Denver's women grabbed spots 2-4 in the women's 200 back.
Lilly Zippel clocked in at 2:02.25 to lead the trio, and was followed closely behind by
Nika Spehar's 2:02.25 and
Darian Koler's 2:02.73.
Dylan Wright got the Denver men in the win column for the first time on Friday evening with a 1:44.00 in the men's 200 back, outswimming the rest of the field by more than five seconds..
Max Roslin took second in 1:49.21.
Jessica Maeda earned her spot in Denver history with a 2:12.78 in the women's 200 breast, breaking the El Pomar Natatorium record previously held by Kierra Smith (2:13.22) in 2017.
On the men's side,
Alex Lynch made it back-to-back wins for the Denver men with a 1:58.48 in the 200 breast.
Denver's women swept the podium in the 100 fly. Marin clocked in at 54.95, Beay finished second in 55.15 and
Sarah Turchanik brought out the brooms with her 55.84.
Rachjaibun earned her second, second place finish of the night in the women's 500 free, completing the first distance race of the weekend with a time of 4:56.75.
Kieran Watson made it a second Pioneer to break a pool record on Friday with his time of 4:26.75 in the men's 500 free, breaking
Colin Gilbert's record of 4:28.23 set in 2019. Wright finished third to round out the podium for the Pioneers with a 4:32.50 and
Joseph Hancock finished fourth in 4:34.10.
Denver's women broke the pool record entering the night in the women's 400 free relay, but were bested by a 0.4 second better time by Wyoming on Friday night. Marin, Remington,
Megan Lucyshyn and
Kali Metuzals still earned a second place finish and important points in the dual with a 3:21.98.
The quartet of
Frank Tirone,
Donat Fabian,
Luke Milburn and
Matija Pantic combined for a 2:58.33 on the men's side to also take second.
Up Next:
Denver, BYU and Wyoming will close out the double dual on Senior Saturday inside El Pomar Natatorium. The Senior Day ceremony is scheduled to be held right before swimming events begin at 10:30 a.m. MT. Diving will close out the competition at 2 p.m. MT.
