DENVER – Following a double overtime thriller on Thursday night in Hamilton, the University of Denver men's basketball team will close out a quick two-game weekend when the Pios welcome Omaha to Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT.

SERIES HISTORY:
Omaha leads the Division I series 12-11, but the Pioneers have won each of the last two, including a 95-80 win in Omaha on December 29. Tommy Bruner had 25 points and Touko Tainamo had 20 and 12 to lead the Pioneers to the win in the first game of the season series. Denver is 7-5 at home against the Mavs in the DI series.
LAST TIME OUT:
Tommy Bruner put up an NCAA DI best, DI school record and career-high 49 points, and got the game-winning steal that eventually landed in the hands of Isaiah Addo-Ankrah for the game-winning three in an instant classic that finished 111-110 in Hamilton. Touko Tainamo finished with a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards. Isaiah Carr had 12 points and three blocks in the contest. After 11 in the first half, Bruner scored 24 in the second half and 14 in the two overtime sessions. With South Dakota leading by six with 50 seconds to go in the first overtime, Bruner scored 12 points in under 40 seconds of game action, including a 4-point play down four with 10 seconds to go to force the game into the decisive second overtime session. The game-winner for Isaiah Addo-Ankrah was his second of the season. 111 points in a game was also a DU DI modern era record.
BRUNER LEADS DENVER IN NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS:
- Tommy Bruner ranks first in the country in points per game (26.3), third in free-throws made (146), first in field goals made (176) and 32nd in three-point field goal percentage (42.0).
- Touko Tainamo ranks 56th in free-throw attempts (115) and 57th in free-throws made (87). Tainamo is also tied for 52nd nationally in double-doubles with six.
- Jaxon Brenchley is 13th in the country in assist/turnover ratio (3.42).
- Isaiah Carr ranks 18th in the country in blocked shots (44).
- Denver entered the weekend 8th in the country in free-throw attempts per game (25.5) and 4th in free-throw makes per game (19.1) and 28th in three-point field goal percentage (37.7).
- As a team, the Pioneers are 6th in scoring offense (86.1), 93rd in rebounds per game (37.95) and 23rd in turnovers per game (9.9).
DENVER'S OFFENSIVE PACE
- Denver's 86.1 points per game this season is the top scoring average in a season in the program's Division I history, and trails only the 1968-69 (89.8), 1990-91 (89.1) and 1975-76 (86.7) in DU's entire history.
- The Pioneers scored 80+ points in seven-straight games from Dec. 18-Jan. 13, the first 7+ games stretch over 80 points in the program's Division I history, and its first overall since the 1992-93 season (9-straight).
- Denver has scored 80+ points in 14 different contests this season, up from eight last season and seven the year before.
- 2023-24 is the first season with 14+ since the Pioneers had 16 80+ point games in the 1996-97 season.
BRUNER HITS 1000 POINT MARK
- On January 20, 2024, Tommy Bruner became the 43rd Pioneer overall, and just the 16th in the Pioneers modern Division I era (since 1998-99) to score 1000 career points.
- Bruner reached 1000 points in just 52 career games in a Denver uniform, 15 games faster than B.J. Prat, who previously held the record.
DU'S DI RECORD BOOK WATCH
- 1000 POINT WATCH: Touko Tainamo has 946 points on his way to 1000, and is on pace to become the 17th in the modern DI era and 44th Pioneer overall to reach that mark.
- CAREER RECORDS: Tommy Bruner has 292 free-throws made, 16 behind Joe Rosga for fifth on the list and 87 behind Nate Rohnert for the career record (379, 2006-10).
- Touko Tainamo became the seventh Pioneer to reach 500 career rebounds and currently sits at 553, 50 behind Wahhb Carter for fourth on the list and 198 behind Brett Starkey's (2000-04) school-record 751.
- SINGLE SEASON: Tommy Bruner is second in free-throws made (146), 11 off the single-season record set by Nate Rohnert in 2009-10 (157). Bruner is fourth in points made in a single season with 553, eight behind Yemi Nicholson's 2004-05 season for third, and 63 points behind Yemi Nicholson's modern Division I record of 616 set in the 2005-06 season.
TOMMY TIME
- Bruner scored 68 of 92 points in the second half or overtime in a three-game stretch for the Pioneers from Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
- Bruner scored 21 of his 27 points against Northern Colorado on January 6 after the intermission (78%).
- Bruner hit a cluth 3 and 2 FTs in the final 1:09 of DU's win at NDSU.
- After an 11 point first half on January 25 vs. South Dakota, Bruner scored 24 in the second half and 14 in the two overtime sessions to lead Denver to a 2OT win 111-110.
