DU Triathlon Finishes Regular Season Ranked Fourth in Nation

Pioneers head to national championships after placing third at western regionals

DENVER The University Denver women's triathlon team will enter the 2024 Collegiate National Championships as the No. 4-ranked program after the final regular-season ratings were released by the Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association.

The Pioneers finish with a total score of 488.29 and secured a team berth into this year's national championships after placing third at the Western Regional Championships. Denver has secured a spot in the heat 1 that will feature other championship-contending squads.

Queens University of Charlotte (492.87) moved up to the top ranking team after previously being at No. 6 prior to regionals. Former No. 1 Arizona dropped to No. 2 (492.68) and Arizona State fell to No. 3 (491.76). Texas Christian University went from No. 3 to No. 5 (486.29).

The national rankings factor in all collegiate events during the regular season across all divisions. Teams have the opportunity to earn more points based on their performance in full triathlons but can also score points in other multi-sport events, such as relays or aquathlons. "Collegiate Cups" and regionals are weighted more heavily than other races.

In the CTCA individual rankings, Denver has five triathletes in the top 40, led by sophomore Maira Carreau in fourth with a score of 99.68. Freshman Beatrice Normand is 11th at 98.61, sophomore Alex Campbell is 21st at 96.98, senior Clara Normand is 22nd at 96.96 and junior Elizabeth Harita is 38th at 96.06. Freshman Ava Pfaff was just outside the top 50 at No. 51 (94.42).

Queens' Beth Cook is the new No. 1 individual athlete with a 101.19 score, while Arizona State's Naomi Ruff dropped to No. 2 with a score of 100.32. Arizona's Kelly Wetteland is just ahead of Carreau in third at 100.00.

The 2024 Collegiate National Championships are set for Saturday, Nov. 9 in Clermont, Florida.
