Denver Closes Road Trip at South Dakota Thursday

The Pioneers and Coyotes set for rematch of double overtime thriller on January 25

DENVER  – The University of Denver men's basketball program will close out a three-game road trip on Thursday night when the Pioneers head to South Dakota for a 6 p.m. MT tip. A rematch of the double overtime thriller from January will be broadcast on the Summit League Network and 104.3 The Fan HD3.

SERIES HISTORY:
South Dakota holds a 14-9 advantage in the Division I series history, but the Pioneers have now won each of the last three meetings including a season-sweep a year ago and the one-point double-overtime victory in January that was capped by a game-winning triple by Isaiah Addo-Ankrah. In the overall series that dates back to 1909, South Dakota holds a 16-10 advantage.

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver trailed by as many as 18 in the first half, led by as many as 10 in the second half, but fell to Oral Robets 82-76 in Tulsa on Saturday night. Tommy Bruner had 22 points in the contest, while Jaxon Brenchley added 20 points for the third time this season.

  • 1000 POINT WATCH: Touko Tainamo has 978 points on his way to 1000, and is on pace to become the 17th in the modern DI era and 44th Pioneer overall to reach that mark.
  • CAREER RECORDS: Tommy Bruner has 309 free-throws made, 10 behind Brett Starkey for fifth on the list and 70 behind Nate Rohnert for the career record (379, 2006-10).
  • Touko Tainamo became the seventh Pioneer to reach 500 career rebounds and currently sits fifth at 567, 36 behind Chris Udofia for fourth on the list and 184 behind Brett Starkey's (2000-04) school-record 751. 
  • SINGLE SEASON: Tommy Bruner broke Nate Rohnert's free-throws made record on February 1 and currently sits at 163 (Rohnert - 2009-10, 157).
  • Bruner is second in points made with 608, 8 behind Yemi Nicholson's modern Division I record of 616 set in the 2005-06 season. The overall entire program record for points in a season is 659 held by Matt Teahan (1978-79).

UP NEXT:
Denver returns home on Saturday when the Pioneers meet St. Thomas for the first of two times in the Summit League regular season. Saturday's tip is set for 3 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on the Summit League Network and ESPN Denver 1600.
