DENVER - The No. 10 Denver Pioneer women's lacrosse team closes out a three-game homestand with a battle against the No. 9 Maryland Terrapins on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. MT.

The Pioneers own a 1-4 record against the Terrapins. Denver earned its first victory over Maryland on March 5, 2023, 8-7, in College Park.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers defeated the San Diego State Aztecs, 18-8, on Sunday afternoon. Denver led 9-1 after the first quarter and was up 13-3 at the game's midpoint. Graduate student
Julia Gilbert led the Pios with four goals and two assists and Senior
Sloane Kipp (3g/0a) and Junior
Lauren Black (3g/1a) each earned hat tricks. Junior
Emelia Bohi started in net and made two saves.
NOTABLES
- Denver had nine different players score and 11 different players record a point (Kyra Obert and Ryan Dineen, assist).
- The Pios forced 12 turnovers and have recorded at least 10 caused turnovers in all four games this year.
- Graduate Student Sam Thacker earned her 171st career caused turnover, breaking the all-time record for the Pioneers.
- Trinity McPherson led the Pioneers with three caused turnovers and six draw controls, while Abby Jenkins added a eight.
SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS: Maryland is 3-1 on the season after a 12-13 OT loss to [16] Florida on February 24. The Terps return the Big 10 Goalkeeper of the year in Emily Sterling, Midfielder of the Year Shaylan Ahearn, as well as their leading scorer Hannah Laubecker and All-American Eloise Clevenger. Kori Edmondon and Hannah Leubecker led Maryland in scoring with eight goals, while Clevenger leads the team wit 25 poins (6g/19a). Goalkeeper Emily Sterling has appeared in all four games for Maryland and has 7.44 goals against average and .576 save percentage.
BIG EAST PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: The Pioneers took home three of the four Big East weekly honors with Gilbert earning Attacker of the Week, McPherson earning Defensive Player of the Week and
Olivia Ripple earning frshman of the week, the first weekly award of her career. Ripple scored two goals and earned a helper, and has recorded points in every game this season.
TEWAARATON WATCH LIST: The Pioneers have four players on the watch list for the 2024 Tewaaraton Award, given to the top collegiate player in the country. Attackers Julia GIlbert and
Jane Earley and defenders
Trinity McPherson and
Sam Thacker were all named to the initial watch list.
