DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball team had two student-athletes awarded in the 2024 Summit League All-League release on Thursday afternoon.
Fifth-year guard Tommy Bruner, who is the nation's leading scorer, was voted to the All-Summit League First Team, while junior forward Touko Tainamo earned honorable mention honors. Bruner joins a group of now four men's basketball student-athletes to earn first-team honors in Chris Udofia (2014), Brett Olson (2014) and Joe Rosga (2018).
Bruner leads the country in scoring with 24.5 points per game, and leads the Summit League in assists with 135 on the season. The fifth-year guard is third nationally in field goals made (243) and seventh in free-throws made (199). Bruner has received a myriad of awards, including being named as one of the top-40 players in college basketball by making the Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America Watch List. In the league, Bruner was a three-time Summit League Male Athlete of the Month and a five-time Summit League Peak Performer of the Week. Bruner was the first in the country with multiple 40-point games this season, while posting 30+ points 10 times and 20+ points 21 times.
Tainamo ended the regular season averaging 16.3 points and 7.9 rebounds across 29.8 minutes per contest. The 2023 World University Games participant finished in double figures in 24 games and with 20+ points in 11 contests. With a year of eligibility still remaining, Tainamo ranks fourth in DU history in career rebounds with 614, 10 off Wahhab Carter for third in the Denver Division I era. In single-season rebounds in DU history, Tainamo's 246 is the fourth-most in the modern era, 15 behind Yemi Nicholson (2004-05) for third.
Bruner and Tainamo both reached 1000 career points in their Denver careers this season, becoming the 43rd and 44th players in DU history to reach the milestone.
