DENVER – University of Denver senior and men's tennis player
Daniel Sancho Arbizu will represent DU at the 2024 ITA All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa, beginning on Wednesday, September 25.
The No. 94-ranked Sancho Arbizu was automatically selected for the singles main draw and will face Braden Shick from NC State in the round of 64 on Wednesday. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT start.
The ITA All-American Championships is one of the most prestigious singles and doubles events in collegiate tennis and serves as a qualifying tournament for the NCAA National Championships. Ten singles players from the ITA All-American Championships – all eight main-draw quarterfinalists plus two feed-in consolation finalists – will book spots in the NCAA singles field.
Sancho Arbizu is the 33
rd Denver men's singles player to earn a spot at the ITA All-American Championships and the ninth to receive an automatic berth into the main draw. His appearance this year gives DU a main-draw singles player for the second year in a row after
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta did so in 2023.
DU has now had at least one men's player in the singles tournament – pre-qualifying, qualifying and main draw combined – in 19 of the last 21 years that the tournament has been hosted.
The senior from Zaragoza, Spain, will open his 2024-25 season at this week's tournament. He finished the 2023-24 season as the No. 6-ranked singles player in the ITA Mountain Regional and held a record of 28-7 on the year.
Sancho Arbizu's teammates will also be in action this weekend, playing at the Bedford Cup in the Mountains, hosted by the Air Force Academy, on September 27-29.
