FORT WORTH, Texas – Freshman
Beatrice Normand led the Denver Pioneers triathlon team in her collegiate debut on Sunday morning at the Battle in the Fort Collegiate Cup at Marine Creek Reservoir.
The Coteau-du-lac, Quebec, native placed in 17th in her first race in DU's crimson and gold. She finished in 1:05:05, including posting the fifth-fastest bike time with a 34:01 split.
Four Pioneers placed within seven spot of one another, as sophomore
Alex Campbell came in 19th in 1:05:13, sophomore
Maira Carreau was 21st in 1:05:46 and senior
Clara Normand in 23rd at 1:05:52. Senior
Olivia Ebenstein was Denver's fifth scorer in 30th (1:07:19), while senior
Avarie Faulkner was 41st (1:09:14) and junior
Elizabeth Harita was 43rd (1:10:00).

Denver finished fifth in the team standings with 164 points. Arizona won the race with 242 points and was followed by Arizona State in second (227), host Texas Christian University in third (190) and San Francisco in fourth (175).
Two ASU Sun Devils finished on the individual podium, as Naomi Ruff earned the win in 1:02:45 and Sidney Clement was third (1:03:10). Arizona's Kelly Wetteland placed second overall and finished 13 seconds behind Ruff (1:02:58).
WHAT'S NEXT: The Pioneers' next race is in less than two weeks as they'll be at the Western Regional Championships on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Fellows Lake in Springfield, Missouri. The 2024 Collegiate National Championships are Saturday, Nov. 9 in Clermont, Florida.
THE COURSE: The race began with a two-lap, triangular swim in the lake totaling 786 meters before transitioning into a 20-kilometer bike that featured four laps through the adjacent Tarrant County College and along Marine Creek Parkway. The 5K run was a two-lap course on the campus, with an out-and-back toward Marine Creek Parkway.
WEATHER: The air temperature at the 9 a.m. CT start was 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It was sunny with intermittent clouds overhead.
