Denver Women’s Tennis Heads to BYU for ITA Regionals

NCAA singles, doubles qualification on the line at ITA Mountain Regional Championships from October 7-11

DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team continues its fall season at the 2025 ITA Mountain Regional Championships, hosted by BYU, on October 7-11.

This year marks the second of a two-year pilot program to hold the NCAA Division I singles and doubles championships in the fall season rather than the spring. The two singles finalists and the doubles champion at each of the ITA Regionals sites receive automatic qualification to the NCAA individual championships, set for November 18-23.

For the second tournament in a row, all 10 Pioneers are set for action. Seniors Zoe Adkins, Marley Lambert and No. 8-seeded Louise Wikander have received direct entry into the singles main draw. Seniors Hana Bečirovič Novak and Claudia Martinez de Velasco, sophomore Natálie Cinková, redshirt freshmen Natali Jaiani and Remy Nguyen, and true freshmen Yunfei Cai and Ruby Hansen will begin in the singles qualifying draw.

Denver will again mix up its doubles pairings. DU's anticipated doubles teams will be No. 5-seeded Bečirovič Novak/Lambert, No. 9-seeded Cinková/Wikander, Adkins/Cai, Hansen/Nguyen and Jaiani/Martinez de Velasco.

Joining Denver in the Mountain Regional are Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, Utah Tech, Weber State and Wyoming.

Singles matches will be best-of-three sets with a full third set. Doubles matches will be one standard tiebreak set. Back draw and added matches may be played throughout the week. Any back-draw singles matches that reach third sets will play a 10-point tiebreak.

A year ago, Denver was represented in both the singles and doubles championship matches at the ITA Mountain Regional. Then-senior Andrea Burguete Beltran fell in a tight three setter in the singles title match but still booked her trip to the NCAA National Championships in singles. She became the fourth Denver women's player to win a singles match at NCAAs with a straight-sets upset win in the first round.

Burguete Beltran also advanced to the doubles final with current DU senior Lambert, thought the duo came up just shy of their trip to NCAAs after splitting the first two sets and falling in a 10-point match tiebreak.

Denver has had a singles player in the ITA Mountain Regional Championship title match in three of the last four seasons that the tournament was held.

Next up, the Denver women's tennis team will host its annual Colorado Cup fall tournament at Denver Tennis Park on October 24-26. DU will host players from Colorado, New Mexico, Weber State and Wyoming for singles and doubles play each of the three days. Admission is free.
